Bourdelle delivered a lecture at the Sorbonne on 9 March 1921 entitled La Revue de France. It was advertised on the front page of the periodical of the same name. He subsequently re-purposed the cover of that periodical and used it as a folder to hold some papers. Along with the lecture notes, there are dozens of letters and cuttings of articles that shed light on the beginnings of this publication and its reception.
This theoretical work by the artist was published posthumously by Les Presses littéraires de France (1952).
Bourdelle took particular care with the archiving and packaging of his personal papers.
