Initially scheduled to run until 13 February 2014, the ‘Bourdelle intime’ exhibition has been extended until 16 March 2014, opening the invitation to discover Bourdelle, his life, his creation, from a new angle.

‘Bourdelle intime’ offers a unique perspective on the studio, a place of creation as well as family life, through a selection of some sixty photographs, some taken by Bourdelle himself or by those close to him. Newly restored and, for the most part, unveiled for the first time, these images provide an opportunity to bring to public attention a museum collection containing some 15,000 photographs. As well as providing a rare record of the birth and activity of the Montparnasse studios, the exhibition reveals a multi-faceted portrait of Bourdelle - the importance of domestic life in his studio, his sense of friendship, his admirations and tastes, and so on. Comparing these prints with a selection of drawings, sculptures and little-known paintings reveals the intricate links between the artist's private life and his creative work, and highlights the power of the photographic act, the source and material of the sculptor's creative process. From the man to the work, from the biography to the creation, so many images to reflect on the subtle interplay between the real life, (the one) lived, and the fantasised life, (the one) staged.
