Sculptures
The collection of sculptures by Antoine Bourdelle, housed in the museum of the same name, includes over 2,000 plasters, as many bronzes, and numerous works in marble, clay, sandstone and wood.
They came to the museum in two main phases: firstly, a donation by his wife and daughter (Cléopâtre Bourdelle and Rhodia Dufet Bourdelle) in 1949, and, secondly, a bequest by the artist's daughter to the City of Paris in 2002.
While some of the artist's sculptural works are held by other institutions – notably the marbles at the Musée Ingres in Montauban – the fact remains that this monographic institution has the most complete collection and can boast a body of work that is remarkable in every way. We are continuously enhancing our knowledge and understanding of the collection through research, testing, loans and restorations.
